Commitment
Net Zero by 2050
Espanaro Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. As a remote-first technology and engineering consultancy, the company's operational footprint is already low — with zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions arising from our business model. Our focus is on accurately measuring, reducing, and reporting our Scope 3 business travel emissions as we grow.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
2025 Baseline
Espanaro had not previously completed a formal organisational carbon footprint prior to 2025. The 2025 reporting year therefore represents the company's first quantified emissions baseline.
The baseline covers Scope 3 business travel emissions only, reflecting Espanaro's remote-first operating model. Emissions were calculated using UK Government Greenhouse Gas Reporting Conversion Factors published by DEFRA and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Mileage claims and confirmed international travel records were used as primary data sources.
| Emission Source | Total (tCO₂e) |
|---|---|
| Scope 1 — Combustion of fuel & operation of facilities | 0 |
| Scope 2 — Electricity, heat, steam & cooling | 0 |
| Scope 3 — Business travel (included sources) | 14.08 |
| Total Emissions — Baseline Year 2025 | 14.08 |
Emissions Reduction Targets
Our Commitments
As a growing, remote-first technology consultancy, Espanaro recognises that total organisational emissions may increase as the business expands. The company is therefore focusing on a per-employee reduction target alongside absolute reduction where achievable.
30% reduction in carbon emissions per employee by 2030 from the 2025 baseline, alongside a long-term commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050. As an indicative target, Scope 3 business travel emissions are projected to reduce by 30–40% by 2030, subject to business growth and delivery needs.
- Maintain zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through continued remote-first operations
- Reduce business travel emissions per employee year-on-year
- Prioritise emissions avoidance before offsetting
- Track and report emissions annually, comparing projected and actual performance
Carbon Reduction Projects
What We've Done & What's Next
Completed initiatives
The following measures have been completed or implemented since Espanaro's incorporation in 2020 and will be in effect when performing contracts.
- Remote-first operating model, eliminating commuting and office energy emissions
- Consolidation of international travel, including multi-leg itineraries that avoided an estimated 4.6 tCO₂e
- Preference for virtual meetings where appropriate, reducing unnecessary travel
- Improved planning and coordination of UK travel to minimise unnecessary journeys
Future initiatives
- Introduction of a salary sacrifice electric vehicle scheme from mid-2026, prioritising high-mileage roles
- Increased rail travel adoption for suitable UK routes, replacing car and air where practical
- Continued optimisation and consolidation of international travel
- Further embedding emissions considerations into project planning across all engagements
